English
The Norwegian Midwives' Association (Den norske jordmorforening) is the professional body and trade union for midwives and midwifery students in Norway.
Who we are
The Norwegian Midwives' Association represents midwives working across hospitals, primary healthcare, education, research, and private practice. We advocate for safe, evidence-based maternity care for women, infants, and families across Norway.
What we do
- Advocacy. We engage with Norwegian authorities and policy makers to protect and develop services for pregnant women, mothers, and newborns.
- Professional development. We support continuing education, host the annual Jordmordagene conference, and contribute to clinical guidelines and quality work in midwifery.
- Working conditions. We negotiate pay and terms of employment for our members and support local representatives across the public sector.
Membership
Membership is open to qualified midwives, midwifery students, and retired midwives. Members receive professional support, advice on employment matters, our journal Tidsskrift for jordmødre, and access to international midwifery networks.
International cooperation
We are a member of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) and work closely with our Nordic sister associations.
